Usage Guidelines & Best Practices

1. Fiber Matching: Only support OS2 G.652D single-mode fiber. Multimode fiber cannot meet 2km transmission requirements and will cause signal attenuation or link down.
2. Port Configuration: Enable RS-FEC function on switch ports to guarantee error-free and stable full-distance 2km transmission.
3. Installation Specification: Support hot-plug operation. Insert and pull out modules gently to avoid pin damage; reserve bending space for fiber cables.
4. Scenario Restriction: This module is designed for 2km medium-distance transmission. For links over 2km, please choose 100G LR4 long-distance modules.
5. Operating Environment: Work stably at 0°C~70°C commercial temperature. Avoid high temperature, humid and dusty harsh environment for long-term operation.

FAQ

Q1: What network scenarios are suitable for Dell-compatible CWDM4 modules instead of LR4 modules?

A1: Our Dell CWDM4 modules fit 0–2km medium-distance networking. Typical scenarios include intra-data center cross-rack links and campus short-distance backbones. Compared with 10km LR4 modules, they consume less power and cost less. They avoid performance waste and are the best choice for Dell short and medium-range 100G deployment.

Q2: Why is CWDM4 more cost-effective than PSM4 for Dell data center internal networking?

A2: PSM4 modules only support 500m ultra-short transmission. They cannot meet large data center cross-row and cross-cabinet needs. Our Dell CWDM4 modules extend coverage to 2km for more scenarios. Stable batch quality reduces replacement frequency and lowers total network construction costs.

Q3: Can I use OM3/OM4 multimode fiber to deploy Dell 100G CWDM4 links?

A3: Multimode fiber cannot support Dell CWDM4 links stably. Our CWDM4 modules use single-mode wavelength transmission. OM3/OM4 fiber causes severe signal mismatch and power loss. It leads to unstable links and fails standard 100G business transmission.

Q4: Can CWDM4 and LR4 transceivers be paired asymmetrically for Dell 100G links?

A4: We do not recommend asymmetric CWDM4 and LR4 pairing. The two types have different wavelengths, power budgets and receiving sensitivity. Mismatched pairing causes signal imbalance and random bit errors. End-to-end identical CWDM4 modules ensure stable Dell 100G link operation.

Q5: Are small wavelength deviations in DDM readings of Dell CWDM4 modules normal?

A5: Minor wavelength deviation is normal for commercial modules. All our Dell CWDM4 modules are factory-calibrated. Small fluctuations are within CWDM4 MSA tolerance. They do not affect transmission speed, link stability or module service life.

Q6: What is the maximum allowable link loss for stable 2km operation of Dell CWDM4 modules?

A6: Our Dell-compatible modules feature a dedicated 2km power budget. Total link loss from splicing, jumpers and patch interfaces must stay within standard thresholds. This guarantees full-speed, error-free 100G transmission for long-term stable links.

Q7: How to solve low receiving power of CWDM4 links after fiber cleaning?

A7: If fiber cleaning does not fix low Rx power, check fiber bending, aging fiber cores or loose port contacts. Our modules maintain high receiving sensitivity. We provide professional technical troubleshooting to resolve Dell link anomalies quickly.

Q8: Is the heating phenomenon of Dell 100G CWDM4 modules during operation a quality problem?

A8: Mild heat generation is normal for high-speed 100G transceivers. Our modules adopt low-power circuits and high-
efficiency heat dissipation. They pass strict high-temperature aging tests. They run safely and continuously in standard Dell data center environments.

Q9: Is there a quality gap between third-party Dell compatible modules and original OEM modules?

A9: Third-party compatible modules have no quality gap with original OEM products. Our Dell CWDM4 modules use industrial-grade chips and standard protocols. All pass real Dell device tests. They match OEM stability at a much lower procurement cost.

Q10: How to identify genuine brand-new Dell compatible CWDM4 optical modules?

A10: All our CWDM4 modules are 100% brand new with complete factory inspection files. You can verify quality via appearance check, DDM detection and Dell real-machine tests. We refuse refurbished products to ensure reliable project procurement quality.
