Usage Guidelines & Best Practices

1. Fiber Matching: Only support OS2 G.652D single-mode fiber. Multimode fiber cannot meet 2km transmission requirements and will cause signal attenuation or link down.
2. Port Configuration: Enable RS-FEC function on switch ports to guarantee error-free and stable full-distance 2km transmission.
3. Installation Specification: Support hot-plug operation. Insert and pull out modules gently to avoid pin damage; reserve bending space for fiber cables.
4. Scenario Restriction: This module is designed for 2km medium-distance transmission. For links over 2km, please choose 100G LR4 long-distance modules.
5. Operating Environment: Work stably at 0°C~70°C commercial temperature. Avoid high temperature, humid and dusty harsh environment for long-term operation.

FAQ

Q1: What is the main performance and application difference between 100G CWDM4 and 100G LR4 10km transceivers?
A1: Our 100G CWDM4 QSFP28 module supports a 2km transmission range, optimized for short-to-medium intra-data center and campus DCI links with higher cost performance. By contrast, 100G LR4 reaches 10km for long-distance cross-building interconnection. Our CWDM4 transceiver features lower power consumption and more affordable pricing, making it the best choice for 2km-scale 100G network deployment.

Q2: For data center 100G short-range deployment, is CWDM4 more cost-effective than PSM4 500m transceivers?

A2: Absolutely. Our Cisco-compatible CWDM4 module extends transmission distance to 2km, far exceeding the 500m limit of PSM4 modules. It covers more cross-rack and intra-campus scenarios without frequent module replacement. With stable mass production quality and bulk discount pricing, our CWDM4 transceiver delivers far better long-term cost efficiency for enterprise network upgrades.

Q3: Can 100G CWDM4 QSFP28 modules operate stably over OM3/OM4 multimode fiber?
A3: No. Our QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S compatible transceiver is strictly designed for OS2 G.652D single-mode fiber. OM3/OM4 multimode fiber causes severe signal attenuation and dispersion, unable to support 2km 100G transmission, and will lead to unstable links or port downtime.

Q4: Is asymmetric interconnection between 100G CWDM4 and 100G LR4 transceivers supported?

A4: Not recommended for formal network deployment. Our CWDM4 and LR4 modules adopt different wavelength and optical budget designs. Asymmetric pairing will cause optical power mismatch and bit errors. We recommend using our uniform CWDM4 modules for end-to-end matching to ensure zero-error stable links.

Q5: Why do DOM monitoring values show minor wavelength deviations from standard CWDM4 wavelengths?
A5: Slight wavelength offset is normal for commercial-grade optical modules. Our CWDM4 transceivers adopt high-precision DML lasers and undergo strict calibration. Tiny deviations fall within the industry standard tolerance range and will not affect actual 100G link transmission performance or long-term operational stability.

Q6: What is the maximum allowable optical power loss for our 100G CWDM4 2km fiber link?

A6: Our QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S compatible module supports a standard power budget suitable for 2km single-mode links. After deducting loss from fiber splicing, patch panels and jumpers, the overall link optical loss must stay within the industry specification range to ensure error-free 100G full-speed transmission.

Q7: How to fix persistent low Rx power after thorough fiber cleaning for CWDM4 links?

A7: If fiber cleaning fails to restore normal receiving power, check for fiber bending loss, aging fiber lines or loose interface contact. Our professionally tested CWDM4 modules feature stable receiving sensitivity. We provide free technical troubleshooting for bulk users to quickly locate and resolve link power anomalies.

Q8: Is high surface temperature of CWDM4 QSFP28 modules normal during long-time operation?

A8: Mild heating is normal for commercial optical modules. Our modules adopt 3.5W ultra-low power design and high-quality heat dissipation structure. No overheating failure occurs within the 0°C~70°C working range. All products pass high-temperature aging tests to ensure 24/7 stable operation.

Q9: Are third-party compatible CWDM4 transceivers inferior to original Cisco OEM modules in quality?

A9: No quality gap at all. Our Cisco-compatible QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S modules adopt industrial-grade laser chips and original standard protocols. They pass full signal integrity and Cisco real-machine compatibility tests, achieving the same stability and performance as OEM modules, while offering more competitive bulk pricing.

Q10: How to identify brand-new unused CWDM4 QSFP28 transceivers from refurbished products?

A10: All our CWDM4 modules are 100% brand new with original packaging, zero refurbished inventory. We support factory parameter inspection, DOM data verification and appearance detection. Every product comes with complete quality inspection records to guarantee authentic brand-new quality for project procurement.
