Q1:What is the main difference between HP J4859B and J4859C?
A1: The J4859C is the newer generation replacement for the legacy J4859B. The core difference is that the J4859C supports DOM/DDM (Digital Optical Monitoring), allowing real-time watch about power/temperature/bias current/voltage, whereas older "B" revisions lacked this diagnostic telemetry.

Q2:Does this HPE J4859C support Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM)?
A2:Yes. Our J4859C with DDM/DOM allows network administrators to monitor real-time metrics such as TX/RX optical power,bias current, voltage and temperature via the show transceiver command.

Q3:Does the HPE J4859C work with Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF)?
A3: Yes. It can work with MMF. While the J4859C was designed for Single-Mode Fiber (10km), the 1000BASE-LX standard allows the J4859C to run over Multi-Mode Fiber (OM1/OM2/OM3) for up to 550 meters. 

Q4:What fiber cable is required for the J4859C fibre module?
A4:This module uses Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) with an LC Duplex connector to transmit data. For short-range legacy multi-mode fiber (MMF) reuse, a mode-conditioning patch cord is recommended.

Q5:Do I need to turn off my HPE ProCurve switch before inserting the J4859C module?
A5: No, the J4859C is hot-pluggable module. You can insert or remove the optical transceiver while the system is powered on and handling active production traffic, without causing any electrical faults or downtime.

Q6:Can this module auto-negotiate its speed down to 100Mbps Fast Ethernet?
A6: No, the J4859C is a fixed-speed hardware device designed to operate exclusively at 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) line rates. It does not support 10/100 Mbps old-legacy connectivity.
