Q1: What is the difference between GLC-ZX-SM and GLC-ZX-SMD? A: The "D" in GLC-ZX-SMD stands for Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM). It allows you to check light levels and diagnostics via the switch CLI. While the 80km distance is the same, the "D" version is the modern standard required for most new Cisco hardware.
Q2: Will this module work in an SFP+ (10G) port on a Catalyst 9300? A: Yes. Most Cisco 10G SFP+ ports are backward compatible. The port will typically auto-negotiate to 1Gbps speed. If it does not, you can manually set the speed to 1000 in the interface configuration.
Q3: Is an optical attenuator required for the GLC-ZX-SMD? A: YES. This is a high-power laser. If your fiber link is shorter than 20km, you MUST use a 10dB-15dB LC optical attenuator. Connecting this module directly over short distances can permanently damage the optical receiver.
Q4: How do I view the DOM/DDM information in Cisco IOS? A: You can view real-time diagnostics using the command: show interfaces transceiver properties or show interfaces .
Q5: Does HYTOPTODEVICE guarantee no "Unsupported Transceiver" errors? A: Absolutely. Our modules are programmed with authentic Cisco EEPROM signatures. They are recognized by Cisco IOS/IOS-XE as GLC-ZX-SMD, ensuring error-free operation without needing special override commands.
