Q1: What is the difference between J4859C and J4859D? A: The J4859C is the legacy version primarily for ProCurve-branded hardware, while the J4859D is the newer Aruba-branded version. The HYTOPTODEVICE J4859C is designed to be backward compatible and works in virtually any slot that accepts the "C" or "D" revision.
Q2: Does this module support Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM/DDM)? A: Most legacy ProCurve switches (like the 2610/2810) do not support DDM. However, the HYTOPTODEVICE J4859C is hardware-ready for DDM; if your switch hardware and firmware support it, you will be able to monitor real-time temperature and power levels.
Q3: Can I use this J4859C module with Multimode Fiber (MMF)? A: This is a 1000Base-LX module. While it is optimized for 10km over Single-mode Fiber, it can be used with Multimode Fiber (up to 550m) if a Mode Conditioning Patch (MCP) cable is used to prevent differential mode delay.
Q4: Will the switch display an "Unsupported Transceiver" error? A: No. Our modules are flashed with the correct HPE ProCurve EEPROM signatures, so they are recognized as genuine "Supported" modules by the ProCurve software.
Q5: Is this module hot-swappable? A: Yes. You can plug it into your HPE switch while it is running without any risk of damage or needing a system reboot.
